Gacharic Spin's Billboard Japan Interview (part 2)

Q : So when Hidaka-san who’s from an independent-minded group, offer you a musical composition, you must be love it, right? Previously he also wrote a song for BiS. What are you thinking when you heard this song from him and what’s impression you get from it?

Koga: We haven’t had such a straightforward song like this before. The performance and view of the world from this song is so fresh. This might be a song that flew like a blood that we never had inside of us.

Q : A single that written by someone else, not by yourself, so, basically from the beginning you’re not reluctant to write song by your own, right?

Koga: No, we’re not. Gacharic Spin is a band that stance to go beyond the boundaries. If there’s any interesting stuff beyond it, we’d love to do that, and if it’s good, we’d also love to do it. And playing a song that written by someone else is a whole different level. ‘Just bring it on!’, it feels like that. Things that we create and our expression while doing it are there too, but if there’s anything new came up from our collaboration, we’d love to take that chance. While we evolve, I think it’s essential for us to take various soul/blood, and that means, we’re not that reluctant at all.

Hana: The song we had this time is full of something that we never had. So, we didn’t know how it was completed, but that’s kind of, an exciting sensation. And so, we record it, and when we perform it for the first time, the response from the audience is very good. As I thought, it’s also alright for Gacharic Spin to have this kind of style.

TOMO-ZO: The guitar solo on this song is quite long and continuous. I usually put a lot of shredding guitar solo over a song, but on the contrary, these one is difficult. But I frantically do my very best to put my emotions over it. It feels like we’re dashing for it, but I play carefully to keep Gacharic Spin’s nuance and heavy sound on it.

Q: On the PV, you battle with Tenryuu Genichirou, and I understand you received many kind of impression from him more and more, so, what do you feel after you working together with him?

Koga: At first, I was very scared. So, I said to him,‘I come to greet you.’, but what he said feels like, ‘You don’t have to fight me.’ (laugh)

OR: I was scared and honestly I don’t know what I have to say!
Hana: Suddenly I feel intimidated, and I don’t know whether he’s joking or not!
Tomo-zo: He said, ‘Are you ready(to fight)?’, and we said, ‘Yes~!’
Koga: I didn’t hear that.

(Everyone’s laughing)

OR: I didn’t hear what he said, 80% of it, so it seems like I read his lip sync. (laugh)

Koga: The video filming went smooth, and he showed us his playful side too. We’re joking with him too, and I think he’s a great man. He doesn’t speak much, but his aura is very great.

OR: There’s a seductive scene I had with him. I say ‘How bout this?’and show him my legs..but my calf is quite muscled,so I said, ‘Sorry.’, he went –Pfft~… and laughed. He must be thinking, ‘Ah, what a quite great muscle she had’, perhaps?

Arisa: Me and Mai,the Gachadan(cers), had a dekopin (flick someone in the forehead) scene with him. I thought he’d gently flick us, but in the end, he seriously did it, for real (laugh). It was hurt, and that’s our real reaction.
Koga: Before the filming, he threaten us and said, ‘Even Tenryuu-san would hit a girl, too’ (laugh), and I think that’s absolutely ridiculous!
TOMO-ZO: And my magical beam didn’t work on guy like him!

Q: That scene, I just don’t get it at all (laugh)

Koga: From the beginning, I was associated with bands that were not focusing on strength and manliness, like Gacharic Spin, so, it’s kinda miracle, right? And plus, we’re the first to have Tenryuu-san appear in the music video.
OR: We took Tenryuu-san’s virginity.

Q: Before this one, you’re also working with The Great Kabuki. So why do Gacharic Spin always have an eager to work with pro wrestlers? (everyone’s laughing)

Koga: During the filming of our PV, the cameraman suggest us to start working with Kabuki-san. It was like ‘Gachapin + pro-wrestlers, isn’t that a good combination?’, and since then, the unknown significance of these combination began to flow..
Hana : Is it because there’s a pro-wrestler among the members?
OR: No, there isn’t.
Hana : Band’s side job?
OR: No, it’s not!
Koga: But I think those mismatch feels amusing. And these time, we put up Tenryuu-san’s dragon along with ‘Dragon Ball Kai’. ‘Dragon Ball Kai’ is about strongmen fighting, and since he’d suit those image, we call him out for this.

Q: But if Tenryuu Genichirou leave that spot, there’d be only Antonio Inoki left that’d fit the image above, right?

Koga: Yeah, he’s certainly will do, right!? And we’ll perfectly get a slap in the face!

Q: The Great Kabuki-san also show up in the other day, on your Shibuya Public Hall’s one man live. He’s doing dokugiri (emitting fog from his mouth), playing nunchaku, and then he left. It’s quite a surreal performance…
(everyone’s laughing)

Q: So, how was it like performing together on the stage with him?

Koga: It’s adorable! Kabuki-san is not kind of person who’d talk much, he’d prefer an action rather than having a conversation. Our manager and Kabuki-san has arranged it on the meeting, so the message would be in one single word response. But he loss for word when we’re asking him questions, so, I remember saying, ‘What we’re gonna do?’!
OR: He kept on saying ‘Eh?’ without using the mic (laugh)
Mai: That’s adorable.
Hana: But it was exciting.
Koga: At the point when Kabuki-san appeared, the audience goes ‘Wowwー!’, and we glad we’re able to perform together with him. We’d love to have him again!
Tomo-zo: And let him dance?
Koga: Why don’t let him fight Tomo-zo? The space alien vs Kabuki.

Q: Those surprising act of Kabuki-san also appeared on your one man live in Shibuya Public Hall, so basically what kind of live you want for audience to experience?

Hana : Though the venue was vast, but our distance with the audiences is so close, therefore, I’d love to have a great live with a sense of unity with the audience in any possible means.

Mai : It’s the biggest venue we had so far, and with such a great space, we can move and circling around it. And those great circumstances enable us to dance without any doubt.

OR: For me, it’d be a live that enable us to do Gomupachin* which I really wanna do,..To perform Gomupachin in every stops of this tour, it’s essential for us to know the length of venue, the distance (to audience) or any other detail for adjustment. And to able to perform our final Gomupachin in such place as Shibuya Public Hall..well, how can I put this straight. I think our expectation was fulfilled. We’re quite passionate on the inside. And when the accumulation of nice patching on our final in Shibuya Public Hall was completed..Bam!, it would sounds like that. It hurt so much that we couldn’t even say ‘Kya~’! It’s painful, but we made it!

OR : And I always said that taking the tub (to the stage) is one of the thing that I always wanna do. It’s hard to make it happens, but Hana-chan gave a routine tsukkomi by bringing up slippers (to stage), and then the tub could be brought to the stage. And moreover, cause the venue is the Shibuya Public Hall. And I won’t regret it at all!
Hana : It’s heavy, you know!
Koga : Like a sportsman!

Q: Shall we stop?
(everyone’s laughing)
OR : I don’t think you can stop an interview and show it how it goes on Billboard Japan’s article (laugh)

Q: On that day, the opening time for the live was pushed, right? But practically, when I see the live, and learned on how far the amount of live’s material extent, I don’t think it should be pushed earlier.

OR : Ahahaha!
Koga : Yeah, we did. But it’s not our fault.
Hana : On the musical side, we don’t have much time to rehearse.
Koga : We didn’t rehearse for the live at all.
OR : We did the rehearsal, but the tub is taking too much time (laugh)

Q : And I was also surprised to see the drone flew around the venue. I think you overdid that.(everyone’s laughing)

Koga : Our live production guy said, ’It’d be better for Gachapin to have a drone’. So, no matter what it takes, we’d love to have it flew around. We dOn’t know much about the drone system, but when saw it flew around, I think, ‘It’d certainly suit us’. And I don’t think there’s any girlband who had such an ablaze flame like we had.
Hana : It’s very ablaze!

Q: It’s my first time to see an ablaze flame on a live, in a place with such capacity as Shibuya-Kou.

OR: Well,if we did a wrong step, we might end up like roasted pork fillet (laugh)
Koga: Our stage properties were put right near the flame thrower. Our roadies hold up the wig properties for the ‘Sekira Liar’, cause they were confused, ‘Where should we put these things?’
Hana : It’s so close, you know. ‘The drums and the keyboard might be burned tooー’, they told us like that (laugh), and we said, ‘No no no no’.
Koga : ‘So it doesn’t matter if Gachapin were burned too?’, it sounds like that though (laugh)
